Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

The short videos we were assigned to watch and discuss in our discussion boards were very educational. Whether it was about foods in Latin America or the workforce, these videos gave me more insight on how other countries operate culturally.

I never held a stereotype or misconception to Hispanic culture. I am always happy to continue learning about the values and culture of Hispanic countries. It was intriguing to learn what the U.S. and Latin America had in common as well as what was different. For example, the gender roles in the workplace video really exposed how gender roles are enforced in other parts of the world as well and how that idea is taught at a young age.

The more we engage with more another the more we able to understand and relate to each other.

Our TalkAbroad sessions entailed participating in a full conversation with a native spanish speaker. The conversations were based around topic we were learning in the modules. It took the preparation of questions to ensure a cohesive 15 minute conversation.

I can definitely say that my first TalkAbroad session was very nerve-wracking for me as I had never spoken with a native speaker before. As I continued through the class, my second TalkAbroad was much more smooth for me. Discussion boards were great. Each time was interesting to see my classmates’ thoughts on different topics and being able to comment allowed for the communication between students that can be hard to do through online courses. Below is my first TalkAbroad Session.
