In this scholarly article, the author Katalin Parti, et al., introduce how recent artificial intelligence (AI) has been exploited to commit criminal activities. This scholarly article addresses the issue of an increase in deepfake media and social engineering attacks. A study was conducted in South Korea, the authors conducted 8 interviews discussing the topics of deepfake cybercrimes. The study came to the conclusion that most offenders for deepfake cyber crimes will be in their 20’s and will commit these crimes for financial gain or sexual gratification. The result of this study showed how there is an increase in deepfake media being used to commit cyber crimes and how there is a need for an increase in police enforcement and criminal procedures. The second study focused on how GPT can be utilized for social engineering attacks. This study used the Big Five Personality Traits to focus on which personality trait is related most to committing cybercrimes. 

The purpose of these studies within this scholarly article is to focus on how rapid technology is changing. With rapidly increasing cyber crimes that are based on technology, this change also needs to be reflected within the criminal justice realm. There needs to be a change made within the justice system to adapt to newer ways crimes are committed. When it comes to social science principles, this scholarly article focuses most on human behavior and risk perception. By studying human behavior, there can be a better understanding of why crimes are committed and the physiological reason behind it. Understanding the motive behind a crime can help with further prevention and awareness. Risk perception can help authorities gain a better understanding of who is at risk of falling victim to cyber crimes and the best course of action to respond to those risks. Understanding human behavior can help authority learn more about why cybercrimes are committed and in return learn more about risk perception. 

In conclusion, this scholarly article sheds light on how the technological advancements within society and cyber criminals need to be taken more seriously by authorities and the criminal justice system. There needs to be a better understanding of why these crimes are committed, who is at risk, and how to prevent it.
