After completing the ‘Social Media Disorder Scale Test’ , I had 3 yes’s out of 9 questions. In the test it states that if you have 5 yes’s, you meet the criteria for a formal diagnosis of ‘disordered social media user’.
When looking at the questions, I think it does put the users social media use into perspective. Specifically one question that I did answer yes to: “Have you regularly neglected other activities (i.e. hobbies, sports, homework) because you wanted to use social media?” This question really does make the user think and reflect on how social media plays such a influence in day-to-day lives. Neglecting hobbies and homework to meaningless scrolling on social media can be the start of a downfall.
I think every avid social media user should take this test to see where they stand. I think everyones answer will be different, no matter where they are in the world. There are obvious factors that play into the answers, such as if a individual has a phone, constant wifi connection, and their work life.
