Can you spot three fake websites and compare the three fake websites to three real websites, plus showcase what makes the fake websites fake?

  • ankervillas.com – so this first one I found just by going to the spam folder in my email. It was an email claiming to be from FedEx trying to confirm my shipping details, but when I clicked on the “more information” it does not have any encryption for the link provided and it was supposedly from FedEx, though it’s showing ankervillas.com. I suppose I am not 100% certain that this is a fake website, however I cannot think of a package of mine that did not get delivered (that I do not already know about, unfortunately) and I am not willing to go to the website to find out.
  • amazom.com – this website is fairly obvious that it is a fake website. It is supposed to amazon.com however it is misspelled very slightly so if you don’t have the right anti-virus/malware protection installed on your computer to tell you if you’ve entered a popular website incorrectly, then you could find yourself shopping for things that will never be delivered to you.
  • WaImart.com – This domain name is undistinguishable from the actual website walmart.com. It uses the same premise as the previous listed one, amazom.com, by using a capital “i” instead of a lowercase “L”.

Another great method to detecting if a website is fraudulent or not is to check its’ security certificate and check reviews on the website to see if anybody has had any prior issues with the website.
