Watch this video and think about how the career of digital forensics investigators relate to the social sciences. Write a journal entry describing what you think about the speaker’s pathway to his career.

The logical career pathway to digital forensics would most likely be college for a degree in cybersecurity followed by an internship at a company to develop experience and network. Then, when all of that is done, apply for a job in digital forensics. To go from a career in accounting to digital forensics is quite a large jump and quite the risk. Especially when the speaker first received the email for the job opening, not knowing exactly what the job entailed. Part of the reason that the speaker was able to excel in his career is that he had prior experience working partly in his accounting firm’s IT department. I believe that job experience was quite helpful in developing foundational skills relevant to his current career. The digital forensics investigator’s role is to collect, store and present data to a court of law. To be able to adequately perform these responsibilities, a digital forensics investigator must use techniques and procedures to produce evidence that cannot be refuted. An accountant must be extremely thorough in verifying that they are in compliance with all of the many tax laws and regulations which I believe also aided the speaker in his current career. By developing that strict adherence to procedures, he was able to excel in his digital forensics career.
