Your First Semester
My first part of college was crazy. I have grown a lot from the beginning of the semester till now. I now know that I need to put more effort into college and if I need help I need to make the effort to reach out and get help. I also found out there is always another route to get to my future or destination. I will now work harder and put more effort into school. My expectations were that it would be a lot like high school. However, I knew it would be more of a challenge but it is much more challenging than I thought it would be. Making friends also helped pave my way this semester. It was nice to have people in my classes to relate too. I wish 14 weeks ago I knew about the recreational therapy major, that I would hate biology, and more about occupational therapy. If I knew I would not have to stress myself out about biology because I hate biology. But, overall this semester went very well.
Study Habits
My study habits were not the best in the beginning. I did not do what I was supposed to do to get better. I did eventually go to a success mentor and she helped me organize myself more. Now I spend more time at home studying. One thing I learned to help me keep on track and help me focus is a very detailed planner. Keeping track of everything and if I need help using my friends. Both of those things will help me next semester.
Health Professions Learning Community
This semester I was enrolled in HLTH 101 and HIST 104H with Professor White. They both addressed the medical standpoint in order to make it more based on our medical major. They both talked about the different fields like Occupational therapy and what it is to do back in the day. When I went to Fort Monroe for the history class I learned a lot about how in the old days they used Occupational therapy for a lot.
Parallel Plan
I enjoyed all of the people coming in and learning about the different majors. I even changed my major because of Recreational Therapy. My two favorite majors were recreational therapy and exercise science. Then from there I would become an occupational therapist or a physical therapist. I like these because I really want to help people in my future. I like the parallel because I will still be happy in recreational therapy because I can still be a health therapist. I just do not have to do all of the biology. Overall, I am very happy I learned about recreational theory so I will be happier with my classes and school.
