I interviewed Betsy Kennedy. She is the undergraduate program director of the Recreational Therapy Program at Old Dominion University. She has a master’s degree in Recreational Therapy from Temple University
Besty Kenndy started out as an undergraduate student as a physical education major. She participated in the Special Olympics which made her see she wanted to do something different in the health field, so she chose Recreational therapy. Then she got a call to talk to a class at Hampton University and she found out she liked that and thought she would try teaching there and liked it and ODU had a job open and soon after she took that. Her favorite part of her job is teaching students about the unknown of recreational therapy. The most challenging part is having her hands tied with certain things. The advice she would give someone going into the health field would be to keep your open, not to limit yourself.
I have learned that I am very excited to start my journey in recreational therapy and to keep my mind open.
