{"id":116,"date":"2023-10-01T04:12:36","date_gmt":"2023-10-01T04:12:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.odu.edu\/fall2017-hlth101-template\/?page_id=116"},"modified":"2023-11-01T18:11:54","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T18:11:54","slug":"mid-semester-reflection","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/katelynwoolf123\/mid-semester-reflection\/","title":{"rendered":"Mid-Semester Reflection"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Study Habits<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><\/strong>College has been quite a journey.&nbsp; I am doing well in most all my classes except for Algebra and Biology.&nbsp; The other classes are going well because they are fairly simple and the course work is not too hard. I am doing decent and still have good grades in Algebra but I am very much struggling in biology.&nbsp; I already knew I would need a little assistance in both math and science.&nbsp; I have made some changes to do better like studying more, asking classmates for help when needed, asking questions, and putting more time into homework and studying. Although I a struggling I just gotta keep my head up and keep on moving<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Transition to College<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I did not have too many expectations for college. I was just going with&nbsp; the flow.&nbsp; When coming to college I knew it would be hard and a lot of work but it is so much more work than I originally thought.&nbsp; I also did not realize there is always something going on and it is a lot to keep track of.&nbsp; I definitely did not realize I would change my major midway through.&nbsp; I really thought I knew what I wanted.&nbsp; I am struggling a little to keep up with everything but I&#8217;m figuring it out.&nbsp; One challenge is definitely being a commuter.&nbsp; I find out about events at the very last minute so I can not usually go to too many.&nbsp; It is hard to attend my peer mentor study sessions because I work and I have to be home alot so it is definitely going to take a lot to get used to and a lot more time on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Major<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><\/strong>I did not realize it was so normal to change majors and I did not think I would be one of those people to change their major.&nbsp; Because I went in knowing exactly what I wanted to but then I found out about Occupational therapy and Recreational therapy. &nbsp; I just recently changed my major to Recreational Therapy.&nbsp; I had never even heard of it until a couple days ago.&nbsp; It is very interesting though to work more with mental and physical than just physical.&nbsp; Taking normal activities and trying to make them fun or trying to take someone in a wheelchair and let them play basketball.&nbsp; I am very happy with my decision to switch from exercise science to Recreational therapy because I am excited for it to be more psychology based.&nbsp; I feel as if this is where I belong and I will be so much happier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Connecting to Campus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One problem I ran into at the beginning, and it is slowly getting better is my procrastination because I am becoming more determined and also talked with an academic success mentor.\u00a0 Since I am struggling with Biology, I am going to attend tutoring sessions.\u00a0 I am very happy with my advisor for helping me change my major, supporting me, and even bringing it up.\u00a0 I feel like I will be a lot happier just because of her.\u00a0 I have also made a couple of good friends who have helped me this semester and ODU is starting to feel like a home.\u00a0 Whether it will be helping with work, hanging out ot de stress, being my partner in a project and even helps to see others struggle with the same things as you. \u00a0 I have not been to any club stuff, but I plan to look more into study abroad because I would like to go somewhere fun over the summer to gain experience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Study Habits College has been quite a journey.&nbsp; I am doing well in most all my classes except for Algebra and Biology.&nbsp; The other classes are going well because they are fairly simple and the course work is not too hard.
