I created this meme, inspired by one I have known for some time, featured below (Source: user @headspace-hotel on the site Tumblr) The inspiration material describes how mycorrhizal mats under forests can connect trees regardless of species, allowing them to transfer nutrients as necessary. This connects forests, and allows for rudimentary communication, of sorts. Mycology is an incredibly interesting subject, and I feel that learning about cell biology has only strengthened my curiosity towards the study. On that note, one subject I have begun looking into far more due to this class, is cytokines and how cells interact with one another and transfer information on the cellular level. Last semester, I was in neurotech, which allowed me to study nerve cells and how they operate. This has made cell biology much easier to take on, as a good portion of terms and concept in this class were featured in my neurotech course. Cytokines are able to communicate and help formulate immune responses to various pathogens. By demonstrating the communication aspect, I hope that this meme better demonstrates and sparks curiosity about the ways cells can transfer information and nutrients to one another.
