What interests me the most about Cybersecurity is the depth and knowledge that you obtain when you dig deeper into the subject. There are so many branches and levels to Cybersecurity as well as different departments you can work in if you choose this as a career field. I studied under the STEM Program in high school, and towards my senior year, our focus was Cybersecurity. That was also the year that I excelled the most in my tech classes. Somehow, all the terminologies and processes just flowed naturally for me, and I felt confident to be able to teach someone else all the information. To be quite honest, I never viewed Cybersecurity for what it was, but more or so what I was able to do with it or should not do with it. There were times when I would take a single phone number and be able to find every social media platform connected to it or take said phone number and use it to find an address. Now that I think about it, that might not be Cybersecurity and might be utilizing free tools provided by the internet. Regardless, I love researching, and I have always been interested in scoping out information by breaking barriers. This is what led me to consider ethical hacking as a career path. I always thought, “If you can take a phone number and find x amount of information from free websites, imagine what you could do with more advanced software.” I have also realized that it is not only about the software but how the user can utilize the tools provided to them. I feel as though the problem-solving skills I have combined with prioritizing this subject in my academic studies can benefit me and my future by providing the space for me to use my abilities how I know best.
