There are numerous ways that you can verify the safety of your computer, or asset. One step would be verifying if the device’s firewall is set up, or enabled. The firewall is utilized to protect the computer, or network, from any unwarranted attacks or access deriving from the internet. The firewall acts as a filter that screens incoming and outgoing traffic from the network based on fixed security protocols. Another way to ensure the safety of your computer would be to utilize some sort of antivirus software that can protect your device from viruses and malware that can potentially harm the device. Along with keeping your operating system and software updated, it is extremely important to keep your antivirus software up-to-date to ensure that your device is protected from the latest threats. One way that many people seem to fight with is applying strong and unique passwords to their devices and accounts. In many instances, individuals do not know the proper requirements for a strong and unique password. The next mistake that they made is reusing the same password for multiple devices and accounts. This increases the user’s vulnerability to getting their data compromised or assets hacked into. Tying into strong and unique passwords, another way of ensuring a secure asset would be utilizing two-factor authentication. Two-factor authentication provides an additional layer of security to accounts as well as devices. This security protocol requires a code in addition to the password to the account. This last measure might seem like a no-brainer, but being aware of the emails you open and the digital items that you download can be helpful in identifying and maintaining the security of your computer. Cybercriminals utilize emails to deliver malware through tricks like phishing emails to potential victims. They can also disguise malware as a document or picture file, causing the victim to download the content without knowing.
