Living Learning Community<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For my elective I participated in the Health Sciences Living Learning Community on ODU main Campus my freshmen year. Through this course I got to live with students who were in a similar career path while also taking similar courses. Those who were part of the learning community also had one specific course for us where we would learn together. This lead to many students forming friendships and getting acquainted with those who would soon, if not already, be in all of their continuing classes till graduation. As I prepare to graduate I can confirm that I still know and talk to students who were in the living learning community with me. Part of the learning community was that we got to also learn more about where we could go after graduation and how we can better help the environment. You can see some of this through my capture campus page. We learned about sustainability, during which, I went and visited Less Than, a store that is dedicated to reducing waste and reusing as much as we can in our daily life. I also visited EVMS where I got to learn about masters programs that they offer such as their PA program and what it means to be a PA. Through this experience I got to see the many pathways that can be accomplished through the nursing pathway. Learning never stops and this was shown through this program. I got to learn that even after I finish nursing I still have room to learn and grow if I so wish to. I also got to learn about how I could better help the environment along the way. There are many ways in which hospitals are very wasteful. We use a lot of single use items which can be harmful to the environment. It is important that we advocate for change within the hospital systems. Our goal is to take care our our health, but we cannot do that effectively if our environment is not healthy either. It will just lead to us continuing to get sick. Healing is not a one stop shop. It has many aspects and we have to learn and address all aspect to have the best health outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
