Mid Semester Reflection

  Study Habits                                        

When it comes to studying for each class, I spend about 2 hours a week per class studying.  My grades are affected by how much time I study for a class.  The classes I spend more time studying I tend to get a better grade in the class than the ones I don’t. I need to spend more time studying history and sociology. Those are the two classes I struggle with the most and have the most workload. I usually study and do my homework either in my room or I would go to my friend’s dorm to study and do homework because we have all the same classes. The time of day that I am most productive is right after classes from 3 pm -7 pm. After 8 pm I start to get distracted and tired.

Learning Styles

              One technique that I have started to use this semester would be recording the lectures. When recording the lectures, I can always go back to what the professor had taught us if I am confused with something. For each class my study techniques are different. The classes that I struggle in like history and sociology I do extra things to help me understand the material. Like going on websites that might explain it better and or websites the help me practice the information.

Transition to College

              College is not what I expected it to be. It is very different. In college, everyone is on their own. You can’t depend on anyone else to help you out. I had to learn how to figure things out for myself and advocate for myself. The one thing that surprised me was how many resources there are on campus to help you be successful in your classes. My favorite thing about this campus is how diverse the campus is. Everyone at ODU is very nice and welcoming; it is easy to stay connected and get involved on campus. I enjoy going to activity hour on Tuesdays and Thursday it is a nice break during a stressful week of school.

Connecting on Campus

              The one program that has helped me the most during this semester would be student support services. When I was struggling in chemistry, they provided me a tutor to help me in that class. I also have a writing tutor from them also. I have attended an interest meeting for SAC student actives council. I have attended and helped at one of the events that they had planned on campus. I really enjoyed that experience.
