Service Learning and Final Reflection

Service Learning and Reflection

The service learning, I participated in was at the IGNITE food pantry that we have on campus. Volunteered there on November 11th at 3 pm. When I first got there, I learned what the pantry did. They help provide food for not only kids that attend ODU but for anyone in the community as well. I helped organized the from that was brought in from donation I also went around the campus passing out flyers.

After looking back at what I did for the pantry really opened my mind. Not everyone has the privileges I have in life as I do. A lot of people out there are struggling, and you might not even know it. It could be your best friend, classmate or even your roommate. It is always good to take time out of your busy schedule to help others. After helping at the pantry, it encourages me to do more things like that in the future.

Volunteering at the pantry can be like a nurse. As a nurse you are caring and providing help for people that are struggling are many need some help. Another degree that can relate to this is being a social worker. Social workers are made to provide help to people that struggling as well as counseling them on their issues. I would choose social work as my parallel major. I enjoy helping people out that may need a little extra help than most people. Being a social worker would be perfect for me besides being a nurse.

I spend more time study now then I did at the begging of the semester. I realize that the amount of time I was spending on studying wasn’t enough for me. My study habits have changed a little. I used to do all my study in my room then I learned that I couldn’t study efficiently being in my room now I either study in the study room of my dorm or the library.

I thought college would be hard. College isn’t hard when you get the right resource to help you. You really must depend on yourself to get what things to get done, done on time. The number one resource that as helped me so much is the SSS Student Support Services. Something I wished I knew 14 weeks ago would be all the support the campus as to offer. The one thing I learned this semester is that you have to take time to study for all your classes. All your classes are just as important as the others.
