The first helping skill that I used during my time in Jamaica was being a good observer. Being in a different culture is new and even though I gained some knowledge about the culture I was out of my element. At the Women’s Centre I observed the girls interactions with my other group members and between each other. I noticed the girls that were friends with each other as well as how they treated some girls they weren’t as close with. When I interacted with them I used eye contact, gestures, and was aware of my facial expressions. I also observed their eye contact, gestures, and facial expressions.
