The virtual reality experience of ImmerseMe will motivate you to analyze, evaluate, and apply practical everyday concepts in a real world situation. Using the four scaffolded learning modes of the ImmerseMe platform (pronunciation, writing/dictation preview, translation preview, and immersion), you will fully engage with real-life scenarios where you will be prompted to interact and negotiate meaning.

To fully appreciate ImmerseMe’s real-world applications and gaming features to recall, practice, and master (Wallinger, 2000) French, you will provide an in-depth reflection to recognize the multicultural learning experience. This is where you will write about: your assumptions and how they were formed, reflect on what French is, how one learns the language, the evolving understanding of Francophone cultures, and what language means to you personally. In addition, you will assess your learning progress in French, including strengths and challenges.

Pronunciation

 I started not enjoying the Immerse Me experience due to technical difficulties. There were times when I would do the pronunciation part right; however, it would not register, which makes me a bit frustrated when I do it over ten + times. When I am stuck on pronunciation, rightfully, I feel like the accuracy can still be a bit too difficult, especially since I am still a beginner and expected not to have it 100%. I believe with that in mind each time I would repeat the word, I felt myself getting closer to getting that “WOW!” Once you do get the pronunciation right, it is such an awesome experience. It is rewarding in that sense.

Writing/Dictation Preview

The Writing/Dictation section has helped me a lot, especially with typing. I feel like I type a lot faster in French and recognize more words. What I have done well is in the writing, typing section. I begin to remember accents in words. It made me get better at placing accents. 

Translation Preview

The translation section was quite challenging because it requires me to quickly think and remember how the sentences were in French and how they sounded, only given the words in English.

Immersion

The Immersion section was quite challenging because it reminded me of the talk abroad assignments where you have to communicate a full-on conversation; the only difference is that the program halts in between. It was different for me to remember what to say and how especially with only little hints. It is helpful in the sense that it does push me to remember these words and sentences.
