IPE Project – Immigrants

In Spring 2021, I worked with another MPH student and two dental hygiene students working on their BSDH. The collaboration was called the Interprofessional Education (IPE) project and it lasted the entire length of the spring semester. The goal of our IPE project was to provide evidence and recommendations to stakeholders for the development of polices and advocacy for immigrants. It combined tools from the core courses of public health and dental hygiene using transcending tools of communication, problem-solving, and leadership. The focus of the project was to examine immigrants access to healthcare and highlight how health intersects with other axis of culture, government, leadership, and social determinate of health in different professions. This project enhanced my prospective as a public health professional by understanding how numerous factors have to be considered when creating healthcare that is sustainable, equitable, and accessible for a community.

Healthcare In Japan Presentation

In Spring 2020, a group project was done in HLSC 702: Health Management, with two other colleagues in my class. The focus of the project was to present to the class a targeted country’s healthcare delivery system. Our country was Japan and the discussion included how the country’s health system is financed, programs/polices, delivery systems, approaches to addressing cost, quality, access and general budget related to health management approach of the country. We also identified the health services delivery system infrastructure, technology advancements, and discussed the relevance of the GDP numbers and the health status indicators of longevity and infant morality. We explained the impact of the organizational components on cost, quality, and access in Japan, described the hallmarks of a well-functioning health care system in this country, and recommended ways to improve the health system. This presentation improved my views as a public health professional by broadening my prospective of other healthcare policies countries have and learning in depth on their values as to why they are work in their community.

Vaping Presentation

In December 2020, a group project was done in MPH 611: Social and Behavioral Science for Public Health. The goal was to create a PowerPoint presentation and executive summary on our group’s health behavior, along with one primary health outcome, the prevalence of vaping, and one intervention. This presentation allowed me to work with my classmates to understand the dangers behind vaping, along with figuring out a way to create an intervention to overcome the barrier of addiction. This presentation added in my career as a public health professional by working as a team to create an intervention for a health behavior, focusing on the RE-AIM framework, and implementing a theory for our intervention.
