SPAN 101

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

I have gained many skills during my time in Spanish 201, but one of my hardest challenges was pronunciation. As I worked on my vocabulary during homework assignments and projects, I tried to perfect my pronunciation as much as possible. In my Chapter 4 project I showed the most improvement in my pronunciation.

Engaging in Communities

I have found engaging with my community much easier since learning some Spanish phrases and vocabulary. I believe it is important to meet and help people when possible and learning a second language is incredibly beneficial in that process.

Interpersonal Communication

Lingrolearning has been an effective online course for Spanish that included lessons, videos, cultural information, homework assignments, and projects. It was divided into 5 Chapters that went over introductions, descriptions, questions, locations, and more.

The projects involved discussing with my classmates about various topics in Spanish. I had interpersonal communication with fellow students along with some Spanish speakers that are my friends and family to help me learn and communicate effectively.

Presentational Speaking

During chapter one we learned how to use “soy” and “estoy” and personal descriptions which allowed us to make a profile about ourselves. We then presented our profile to our professor during a oral exam. This helped me become comfortable presenting myself in Spanish and prepared me for the other speaking projects throughout the class

Presentational Writing

Our first project was profile that included a description and details about ourselves which has set me up to better present myself to a Spanish speaking person. The terminology was very helpful to easier present myself and I also improved my usage of accent marks.

Interpretive Listening

There were some listening activities where we had to listen to a phrase or conversation and either repeat what was said or complete the sentence. I found this easier than other activates because I have a much easier time understanding Spanish when listening rather than speaking it because I focus a lot on pronunciation and often forget vocabulary.

Interpretive Communication

We had many interpretive communication activities, most of which were in class assignments where we partnered with another classmate and would ask each other questions, had conversations, and use hand and face gestures to communicate. There were also a couple projects where we introduced ourselves and gave a tour of the school and activities we enjoy. I found some of these assignments challenging due to the large vocabulary needed to complete the assignments, but with a lot of practice managed to understand enough Spanish to have conversation. It was interesting to learn together with my fellow class mates and help each other with pronunciation. I found these assignments helpful and enriching.
