Since the beginning of the semester, I have grown in studying for Anatomy and Physiology. During the first week of college, I found out how difficult the class was going to be, and I cried every day. After I figured out how to properly study for the class, I never had a problem again. My expectations for this year were to receive all A’s in my classes. This semester’s experience in my classes met my expectations because I currently have all A’s and have over a hundred in Microbiology and Anatomy and Physiology. Fourteen weeks ago, I didn’t know I would be able to survive Anatomy and Physiology and be successful in the course. I have doubted myself too much in that class, but I have proven to be successful.
I spend about the same amount of time studying for my classes now compared to the beginning of the semester. I still study about eight hours a week for Anatomy and Physiology, four hours a week studying for Microbiology, two hours a week studying for Sociology and Honors Interpreting the American Past, and one hour a week studying for Introduction to the Health Professions. My study habits have not changed since the beginning of the first semester. During the beginning of the semester, I was scared to ask my professors for help during office hours. I think I felt uncomfortable since I was in a new place, but now I go to my professor’s office hours all the time and feel very comfortable at ODU. Next semester, I will continue to study the same by reviewing materials for my classes every day, making quizlets, and asking questions.
This semester, I was enrolled in SOC 201S and HLTH 101. These classes felt connected to me because I always felt like we were a connected group. The purpose of the learning community is to engage everyone and make them feel connected as a group. Also, while I was in HLTH 101, we talked about learning community events and how it was important to attend those events, and we also had learning community events in Sociology as well. The most beneficial learning community event was the student health meet and greet in Owens House. I really liked hearing from the different people and the variety of options you have going into a health professions career.
