Cryptography
Cryptography is a science of writing in secret and is also necessary when using anything through the internet network. Authenticity and integrity are two of the five primary functions of cryptography, one is the process of helping identify and show proof of the user’s identity. While the other one ensures that the receiver’s message that was sent by them was not altered or changed from its original state in which it was sent. Cryptography is used to help protect confidential information and the integrity of data in its original state. Keeping the integrity of data is very important to make sure that data is accurate so the data can be trusted and used. Cryptography provides codes and also digital keys to ensure what is being received is intact and original from the sender. Authentication helps with authenticity which is usually a password or username for the identification factors to show the user’s identity. While there are different cryptographic schemes such as hash functions that ensure data integrity because if any change was to occur to the contents of the message, then the receiver would calculate a different hash value than the one that was provided by the sender in transmission. The hash value helps with the confidence of data integrity. Kerberos is a commonly used form of authentication scheme such as in some cases hosts on their networks have their own secret key. Cryptography has a big part in maintaining authenticity and integrity in the cyber world for protecting identity and valuable important data.
