What are the costs and benefits of developing cybersecurity programs in business?
Small firms should build cyber security systems for a variety of reasons, one of which is because they do not generate as much money as larger enterprises. With that stated, a cybercrime will be more damaging to a small firm because of the money that might be lost. Small companies are also easy targets for fraudsters because, as stated in the NSF article, many small company owners are unaware of the hazards. Every business is vulnerable to cybercrime, thus every business should have some level of security in place to make them less vulnerable. As time passes, more businesses are beginning to store information on mobile devices such as phones and laptops. Since this is the case, I believe that small enterprises should spend some money on mobile security. This would scan for weaknesses in these devices, allowing the company to keep track of who has access to the data. Because mobile devices are not being used to attack companies, they may continue to generate money. Security awareness training is another cyber security program that I would recommend to a small firm. This is to teach personnel on proper security procedures and to ensure that employees are aware of the security regulations in place. I would advise them to participate in this program since many small businesses are family owned, and it is sometimes simpler to acquire a job with a small firm. With this in mind, the owners would be able to train their personnel on good security behaviors, reducing the likelihood of a cyber-attacker readily attacking the system. Overall, small firms will not be able to afford cyber security protection for all aspects of their operations since they simply do not generate as much revenue as larger corporations. Even if nothing can be completely safeguarded, it would be beneficial to put certain safeguards in place to make it more difficult for an attacker to hack the firm. In terms of how much a small firm should spend on security, I would estimate that roughly 7% of their earnings should go into cyber security.
How can you tell if your computer is safe?
There is no way to know if your computer is fully safe, but you can detect if it is infected with malware. Pop-up messages, your browser’s homepage changing without your input, your computer crashing, your computer becoming slower, and weird error messages appearing are all symptoms that your computer has been infected by malware. These are just a few examples of what might happen to your computer if it has been infected.
