Step 1: Evaluate My Study Habits
- My current methods of studying is to make a study schedule and write on a sticky note of every class that I need to study for like a quiz or test. On that sticky note will be the things that I need to go over again. Like for instance, I just took my first exam in my Chemistry lecture class, the way I prepared for that was to print out the exam review and answer the questions, and worked out some conversion problems. We even had a study group session with my peers. I study for each class differently I feel because every class I learn differently. For example, my Dance and Its Audience class we have daily quizzes so I read the book, then highlight important deals, then go over them again, and then take the quiz.
- Specific techniques I use in class is to write everything down that I think is very important and also what the professor says I need to write down. I highlight the terms that have definitions and key terms.
- Techniques that I use outside of class is to use note cards that would have questions that I made up and with the answers on the other side of it.
- One class other than Health 101 that I am doing well in is English Composition. Even though I did not like english in high school, college english is kind of easy to me so far. We have not had a quiz or test yet, so there is not a study method for this class.
Step 2: Identify And Apply New Learning Techniques
- Some strategies I have used was to have a study group for chemistry lecture and I did an office hour session with my english professor both were successful. I am taking full extent to all available learning supports for me. Taking the time out to print the exam review, setting up the study group, and working out some problems that I had trouble with.
- Five academic tips that I have reviewed was set priorities, stay focused, overcome procrastination, get organized, and time management. One new technique I could try in class is to participate in class discussions, but I be nervous that I going to say a wrong or dumb answer.
- One new technique that I could try outside of class is that I can overcome my procrastination because I am really good at doing that. Also stop getting easily distracted by my cell phone and talking to my peers while trying to do work or study unless we are doing it as a group.
