Service Learning and Reflection
For my Service Learning I raked leaves in many people’s yards with my church (mostly elderly) I did my service learning on November 11th, and 25th 2017. My church is called Ivy baptist Church and every fall we rake leaves as a community service event.Ivy’s purpose is simply to just love and worship god. Ivy baptist’s mission is “to love God and one another through Worship, Discipleship, Fellowship and Evangelism — Matthew 22:37-40”, and the goals of Ivy are Ivy Baptist Church is to build a spiritually mature, intergenerational body of believers through Jesus Christ our Lord.Ivy’s purpose is simply to just to love and worship god. My church prays for anyone in need and is there to help with whatever you need help. Many times a year, my church will feed the homeless, fundraise for certain organizations, and in the fall, we rake the leaves in people’s yards for those you aren’t able to. By doing many things to help the community, this service learning choice is effective because you are also helping with people. It may not be in a medical way but we still help others that are in need. By raking leaves I learned that doing something so simple can help many people out. There are many elderly people who cannot bend down or many people that cannot walk, therefore, they need someone to rake their leaves, or clean their yards. Helping others genuinely makes me happy therefore, I know that being a nurse or being in the medical field is the place where I belong. Even though raking leaves was a volunteering mechanism for my church, I believe that raking leaves can be more on the business side. I could start my own business to rake leaves. I wouldn’t want to pursue a business in raking because because, I know that nursing is for me
