Self Reflection

10.16.17

As a little girl I always dreamed about what life would be like in college and then graduating to be the nurse i’ve always wanted to be! I’m a freshman, in my first semester and I feel like I have learned so much already. College is not all fun and games, you learn to work hard and then play hard. In college you are on your own therefore, you get the opportunity to learn more about yourself such as: how you learn, what you like to do, what you think is difficult to do and so on. In this essay I will be talking about My Learning Style, My study Habits, The transition to college as a freshman and what do I do to connect with to the campus!

In my health class I received an assignment that had questions to see what type of learning style I was. My learning style was the ‘Sensor Feeler’. As I read what a ‘Sensor Feeler’ liked to do and how they are as a person, I began to think that my results were very accurate. The paragraph I read stated that ‘sensor feelers’ love to participate in hands on activities as well as group activities and they were correct! The paragraph also stated that one of the recommended jobs for a ‘Sensor Feeler’ was a nurse which is my dream job! I learned that some of the best ways to study as a ‘Sensor Feeler’ is to stop every few minutes to review, to read the material out loud and to try to relate the information on a personal level.

Studying is a must in college so my studying place is my dorm room, while there may be a few distractions such as my phone or just wanting to get in bed and go to sleep but i sit at my desk and make sure I finish studying first. I usually study at night and when I wake up in the morning. With my learning style, I have tried to accommodate to the study habits I should do that is best for me and so far they have extremely helped, especially by relating the information on a personal level that way I can understand it better!

College is everything I thought and dreamed it would be by going to class, parties, and even meeting new and different people. The toughest challenge for me while living on campus so far, is being away from my family and my dog. It was/is especially hard being away from my mom because she is like my best friend. The easiest challenge to overcome in college is college itself making you adjust to not procrastinating, which is great!

One of the troubles i have experienced while at college was trying to understand sociology. Lately, I have been understanding it better because I have been attending PASS sections with my leader Najah. At ODU I want to learn more about the Resident Assistants because I would love to be one! This semester, My friends, my R.A, and my teachers and mentors have kept me going whether I just need to vent or i need help understanding something for class. I have attended an interest meeting to become and R.A. in my next few years at ODU. I want to be and R.A. because I watched my cousin be one at VCU and it looked so cool and fun!
