Dear Future Me,
This semester in English class, I learned a lot about writing and myself. Writing the essays helped me understand that writing is not just about grammar or spelling. It’s also about sharing my ideas in a way that people understand and care about.
One thing I don’t want to forget is how important it is to revise my writing. I used to think the first draft had to be perfect. Now I know that it’s okay to go back and fix things. That’s when my writing gets better.
Three words that really helped me this semester are rhetorical situation, genre, and audience. These helped me think about who I am writing for and what kind of writing I am doing. Genre helped me know how to shape my writing. Thinking about the audience helped me focus my message. The rhetorical situation reminded me to always think about the purpose and setting of my writing.
I still have trouble organizing my thoughts. Sometimes I have too many ideas and I’m not sure how to put them in order. I also need to work on writing smoother sentences that connect well.
This class showed me that writing is a way to express myself. I learned to trust my ideas and feel more confident when I write. Writing is not just for school. It’s something I can use to share who I am.
Keep trying, and remember how much you have grown.
Sincerely,
Me
