There I was, speaking with a woman local to Rotan, Honduras, in her native language, trying to find the best food of course! It was a well long over due family reunion. All aboard! A 5 days cruise. Destinations: Mexico, Honduras and Belize! I have been engaged in the Spanish language for a few years at this point. This trip was so much more than just a vacation. It was really time to put my my language, comprehension, and listening skills to work. The fear of rejection from locals quickly disappointed once I saw how much they appreciated the fact that a non native tongue was invested in theirs.

This trip took my skills and confidence to a whole new level. Before this, I would have never imagined being able to hold actual conversations with people whose primary language is Spanish. Turns out I knew a lot more than I thought I did. It is without a doubt “¿Dónde puedo comer bien?” gave us the experiences we had!

This experience gave me the confidence and drive to learn more of this newfound language!
