Throughout the course, activities such as collaborating with my classmates, having conversations with native Spanish speakers, and watching Spanish short films , allowed me to gain more confidence in conversing and a better understanding of the language.

Intermediate-Can-Do-Statements

This level of this class is Intermediate Low-Mid, and the different areas of the course, I have inserted Can-Do statements provided by NCSSFL-ACTFL to showcase what I am capable of at this level.

Exploring Culture

When it comes to learning and appreciating other cultures, I have found that watching movies, listening to music, reading literature, and even speaking to those apart of that culture really helps.

In class, we watch a variety of Spanish short films, or cortometrajes. I think these were one of the most beneficial ways in exploring culture because these were not just films translated into Spanish, but they were made and written by Spanish artists and showcased parts of the culture in the film.

One cortometraje that we discussed in class that was very profound was Namnala.

In the film, an immigrant steals a camera and takes it to a shop to get it repaired. Later, though, we discovered that he did so document his late wife’s final moments. Below are more questions about the film discussed in class.

This was beneficial because we were able to connect the themes from class with content by Hispanic artists.

Interpersonal Communication

In the duration of class, there were many ways to practice conversational Spanish. With my peers, we shared our opinions on a variety of topics via discussion boards.

Another form of Interpersonal Communication was through Boomalang, a service where one can connect and communicate in spanish with native speakers, whom are college students as well.

Click HERE to listen to a conversation of mine with a Native Spanish Speaker

This Boomalang was between myself and a college student named Maria. In class, we were discussing the theme of lying and abuse of power. We were able to have an insightful conversation about the issues of injustice in both of our countries.

Presentational Speaking

Throughout the semester, I made and presented presentations using Flipgrid on the themes we discussed in class.

This is an example of a Flipgrid presentation I did on the topic of technology. I was able to share my opinions with my classmates, as well as exercise my presentation skills in Spanish. This was good practice in using the language to form coherent opinions in a formal manner.

Spanish 311 is a communication-intensive course.
