SPAN 102

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

Exploring culture was apart of Lingro Learning. There was a section within that textbook that was called Exploración Cultural. In those sections, they taught us about different elements that were apart of Spanish Speaking Countries. I learned about LGBT Rights, Gender Inequality in Sports, Comfort Foods, Happiness and Well-Being and Professions shaping identities.

Interpersonal Communication

This semester I communicated with others via Talk abroad, in class discussions and through final oral exam. On talk abroad , I had discussions in Spanish with another person who lives in a Spanish speaking country. In the discussion board posts , I communicated with other classrooms on various topics that relate to the Spanish culture. The final oral exam was a conversation between me and my professor to see if I can understand and respond back appropriately.

The talk abroad assignments were difficult for me because I didn’t know what to expect because that was my first time doing it. I wasn’t sure about what questions exactly were going to be asked and during the conversations my mind would go blank. This experience I learned how to try and keep a conversation in Spanish , next time I would learn to remember a lot more vocabulary , be more prepared and be less anxious. In the in class discussion, I would partner up with others and we would practice our Spanish by asking and answering each other questions and with the professor. The final oral exam consisted of me answering questions that were asked by my professor , it was only difficult if I could not think about a certain word I needed to say but overall I did excel and do well during the exam.

Presentational Speaking

I completed projects via Lingro Learning that required me to make a presentation and speak. One of the projects consisted of making a video of my family and the other consisted of making a video of a dish we like. I enjoyed making both assignments, it was a way to display my speaking skills and prepare a presentation that was in Spanish as well.

Interpretive Listening

There were videos on Lingro Learning and in each module that helped break down what we learning for that module and there were activities that required me to listen to audio and then answer questions also on Lingro learning.

The videos in Lingro learning and the modules were there to help and guide us through to complete the activities prepare for the exams. During the lingro learning activities I would listen to statements being made in Spanish and I would have to say if the statement was true or false or I had to match a picture to the correct audio.
