There are a few professional goals that I would like to achieve by the end of my internship experience. The first is to understand how the healthcare administrator optimizes resource allocation for the organization. Healthcare administrators are responsible for allocating funding for each department in a medical center. They also invest in new medical technology and search for opportunities in research and development. Prioritizing the improvement of allocation of resources, such as funding and new equipment, can help departments provide better care for patients. In order to accomplish this professional goal, I plan to interview the administrator/practice manager to determine how she decides how much money and resources to allocate to each department in the healthcare organization in order to optimize resource allocation for the organization.

The next professional goal that I would like to achieve by the end of my internship experience is to learn how the healthcare organization prioritizes patient care. Hampton Family Practice’s mission is to be committed to the continuity of care and delivery of compassionate, patient centered services and education promoting good health and quality of life for patients and their family members of all ages. It’s important to prioritize patient care in all medical settings. Creating services that center on patients may improve patient outcomes, patient and staff satisfaction, and the success of the medical center. Professionals who work in health care administration don’t usually interact with patients, but they do strategize to improve patient care. In order to accomplish this professional goal, I plan to interview the administrator/practice manager to learn how she strategizes to improve patient care and prioritize patient care throughout all departments of the healthcare organization.

Finally, the third professional goal that I would like to achieve by the end of my internship experience is to learn how the healthcare organization increases and fosters workplace diversity. Workplace diversity is a goal health care administrators should strive for because diversity can increase innovation, improve patient relations, and attract top talent to the organization. If the healthcare administrator focuses on diversity during the hiring process, they can develop a culturally diverse workforce. When treating patients, it’s helpful to have a team of diverse professionals to gain multiple perspectives and determine the best treatment plan for the patient. I think that workplace diversity is very important for the overall success of healthcare organizations. In order to achieve this professional goal, I plan to interview the administrator/practice manager to learn how she increases and fosters workplace diversity in the healthcare organization.
