5) Module 8 Artifact:

For my visual representation I made a word cloud of all of the subtraits that were reflected in my behaviors.
In my past, I have had many episodes that did not match my personality traits. One example of this is when I got really upset with my mom about something and I got really angry and yelled at her. This is not like me to do this type of thing, especially to someone that I love. This really goes against my personality as I strive to be nice and respectful to everyone that I interact with on a daily basis. I was raised to be this way and it is embedded in my values that I should always behave this way. I definitely believe that context influences our behavior. For example, if a person is around negative people, then they will generally be more negative themselves.
I chose this artifact as one of my favorites because I learned a lot about how my environment and the context of where I am can influence my personality and behavior.
4) Module 10 Artifact:
Hall (1973) suggested that cultures differ in their time perspective and orientation. He analyzed differences among people of different cultures in their use of time and how these differences manifested themselves in actual behavioral practices with such context as business. We interact with various people in our daily lives. However, the point is whether people present different behaviors to different people in terms of time. Suppose you have an appointment to meet each of the following people somewhere outside. If your partner did not show up at the appointed time, how long can you wait or are you willing to wait? Write the minutes you can wait for each person below.
Target Person | Minutes |
Your parent | 60 |
Your older sibling | 40 |
Your boyfriend or girlfriend | 60 |
Your best friend | 40 |
Your colleague | 30 |
Your client | 30 |
Your boss | 30 |
Did you find any differences in the results? Yes
If you said “yes” in the previous question, who will you wait for the longest time and who will you wait for the shortest time? Why?
I will wait the longest amount of time for my family and my boyfriend. I will wait the shortest amount of time for my boss, colleague, and client. I will generally wait longer for those that are closest to me and that I care for more.
I chose this artifact as I learned a lot about time and how I use my time as well as how people of different cultures use their time differently than I.
3) Module 3 Artifact:

I chose this image as my visual representation as I will be describing it and how it represents my culture below.
This artifact required me to take a picture of an object that I believe represents my culture. I chose a picture of my cross necklace because it represents my religion of Christianity which is a big part of my culture. I chose this artifact because this item represents a large part of who I am. Going to church and being around other Christians has been a large part of my life, all of my life. In college and this class, I have learned a lot about different cultures and how they compare/contrast to mine. I chose to add this artifact because it represents a large part of who I am as a person.
2) Module 7 Artifact:

I chose these images as the image on the top represents socially disengaged emotions (pride) and the image on the bottom represents socially engaged emotions (friendly feelings).
- Write five happy episodes or situations which you have experienced in the past.
- Getting accepted in the National Honor Society in high school
- Graduating from high school
- Getting into Old Dominion University
- Starting college at ODU
- Going on a date with my boyfriend
2. Look at your responses again. Which episodes or situations do you think are associated with “socially disengaged emotions”? Which episodes or situations do you think are associated with “socially engaged emotions”? Write the numbers of the episodes.
- Socially disengaged emotions: 1, 2, 3, 4. These happy episodes were instances that were separate from others and promoted independence. My educational success has made me feel prideful and accomplished on my own.
- Socially engaged emotions: 5. This happy episode was an instance where I was interdependent on my relationship with the most important person in my life, my boyfriend.
By doing this item to archive, I learned about socially engaged and disengaged emotions and examples of them in my own life.
1) Module 13 Artifact:

I chose this image because it represents how my boyfriend makes me happy.
My boyfriend, watching tv, and being with my cats makes me happy. I do believe that at different times in our lives different things make us happy. For example, as a kid, toys made me happy. But as an adult, toys do not make me happy. Instead, other things make me happy now. I think that both statements are true. A person’s happiness relates to better physical health and a person’s better physical health leads to their happiness.
I learned about what creates and affects a person’s happiness. I chose this as one of my favorites as I really like being happy and it is important to me to know what creates and makes me happy.
