Informal Assessment: This activity is based off of an informal assessment design in order to meet the daily needs of students in the classroom. Informal assessments are used on a daily basis by teachers to help evaluate the progress and comprehension levels of their individual students. The way this activity is designed is so teachers can see how each individual student is progressing in their class and which concepts they may not be understanding and which ones they are. Informal assessments are important and crucial to use in the classroom and can help a student be more successful in this setting as well.

Activity Description:
The game that I created is based off of the website Kahoot. Kahoot is a widely known website used in various settings both inside and outside of the classroom. Kahoot is essentially a multiple choice question and answer based software that allows each individual student to have their own answer and ranking based upon everyone playing that game at that time. The questions and answers will be projected in front of the class so all students can see via Smartboard technology. Technically all of the students have the same role as everyone is answering the same questions provided to the class via the Kahoot website.
Students will work off of personal tablets for this 10 question activity. The students will search the Kahoot.com website and enter the game pin provided to them and enter their name to keep track of their scores and percentages. The question will appear on the screen alone with no answer choices for 7 seconds, then the answer choices appears. This allows for students to thoroughly read the question before jumping into the answer choices. There will be no discussions when the students are reading the question and inputting their answers. The students are required to tap one of the four answer choices that correctly corresponds to the appropriate answer to the question. Once all students have answered, the correct answer will be shown and each student will receive a red or green screen on their tablet based on their correct or incorrect answer choice; a green screen means they answered correctly and a red screen means they answered incorrectly. The teacher is instructed to discuss the correct and incorrect answer choices for each questions in order for the students to understand why choices they may have chosen are either correct or incorrect. The teacher and students will then participate in a class wide discussion about the activity and the teacher can address any questions or concerns the students have. The teacher will explain why the correct answer choice was the most appropriate for the question and help guide the students as to why the other answer choices weren’t as appropriate.
After all of the questions have been answered, there will be a list on the screen of the top 5 students who answered the most questions correctly. Those top 5 students will receive a small prize and all students will receive positive praise for their efforts. This activity can either be recorded as a class participation grade, incomplete or complete, or whatever percentage they scored for the game can be entered as a classroom activity grade.
This Kahoot game addresses all of the learning objectives within the individual questions that are asked throughout the game. The teacher has the ability to create the entire game, so all questions and answers asked should relate to the learning objectives for that specific class period. Each question asked in my Kahoot game relates to the learning objectives based off of comparatives and superlatives.
The teacher will be able to see the students scoring accuracy and have the ability to understand which concepts are being understood better than others, if any. The teacher can then interpret that data information and use it to shape her future classes and lesson tapered to the students and their abilities. Also, the students will be interacting in discussion after each question, so there is still a good portion of social and peer communication built into the activity. This allows for positive and negative feedback from the teacher and peers to affect each students learning abilities and further understanding of the knowledge.
