Medical Associates of Southwest Virginia is an independent family practice owned and operated by Greg Beato and Maggie Belton alongside long-time employee Amber Delph. Amber has been at the practice for twenty years and in her current position for half that time. Amber has learned her knowledge through hands-on experience which has benefited her and the practice as she has made tough decisions on the spot based on instincts and knowledge of the practice’s values.
In the first half of my internship, I have learned the basics such as how a private practice operates with insurances, how the insurance companies use doctor documentation for approvals, how to know when to negotiate contracts, and so much more. There are some responsibilities that stay consistent such as making daily deposits, checking and answering emails, checking the schedule for the next day forĀ insurance eligibility, posting credit card payments, ensuring bills are paid, logging into the ACO- Aledade to ensure care gaps are noted in charts to be addressed, medical and office supplies are stocked, check books are balances, pay roll is correct, charges are sent to insurance companies for timely filing, credit card payments and checks are posted, remits are submitted, and daily management responsibilities are upheld with respect towards employees and patients.
I have learned that time management is one of the most important skills to have in a managerial position. It is also vital for the success of a medical facility that your employees are knowledgeable, on task, and passionate about patient centered care.
