Reflection

Throughout my time in SPAN102 I had many highs and several lows. Spanish has always been a fascinating language to me. I never had time to deeply connect with my heritage and did not stick with Spanish throughout high school. Throughout Spanish 102 we were introduced to more vocabulary and challenged with learning the different forms of verbs. One of my favorite things I did in this class was to write compositions. We were asked to describe our daily lives in real life or a made-up routine. I loved doing this because it helped me to put our vocabulary to the test and be as creative as I wanted. Doing these compositions helped me to get great feedback from my professor as well. The ability to write a full story in Spanish was an accomplishment for me and something I did not believe I could do. I did have to refer back to my Spanish dictionary from when I took Spanish 101 but it was still an accomplishment for me. I struggled the most with understanding Spanish being spoken out loud. We had to do two talk abroad interviews for this class and while it was fun to do I realized hearing Spanish was harder for me to comprehend compared to reading. I quickly realized this with my VHL homework we had to do as well, listening to the audio was harder for me to comprehend compared to reading short stories and texts. While this was challenging for me I believe it was for the better as I got to practice and at least try. Spanish 101 and 102 were required for me to take for my major and I am so thankful for what I did get out of this class I learned so much from Hispanic/Latino culture to how to speak in Spanish.
