Deviance has always been around in workplace environments but new technology has recently made it easy to commit deviant acts. A common example of this is cyberloafing, this is when workers get bored at work and decide to use the internet for personal use while they are supposed to be working. Even though this isn’t malicious behavior it still violates most company’s technology policies and is proven to slow down workplace production. What makes Cyber loafing worse is that it can also lead to some security risk, carelessly opening some tabs or scrolling through social media can create a window for a hacker to steal information or hurt the company in other ways. Workplace White collar crime Also becomes a threat when dealing with technology. These types of crimes are nonviolent and are used for personal finical gain and are usually done by someone on the inside. One major example is Insider trading witch is when someones use their access to information to try and gain an unfair advantage in the stock market. Extortion and blackmail are also examples of workplace white color crimes someone will use information against someone to try and gain an upper hand against them. Another example is embezzlement witch when a trusted company official steals information from the company for some type of personal gain. Also crimes such as cyberbullying and cyberstalking still exist in the workplace and are also examples of workplace deviancy, These create feelings of instability and an unsafe work environment.
