This article describes how social cybersecurity is becoming an increasingly important piece in cybersecurity. Hacking or manipulating other humans is a powerful tool that has been utilized by hackers for years. When you begin to look at cybersecurity through an interdisciplinary lens, it becomes clear that there is much more to the field than 1s and 0s.
Information is not exclusive to machines; humans can hold information too. Hackers will target humans just the same as they do computers because of this. Tools such as cognitive hacking, manipulation, intimidation, impersonation, and several more strategies are used to obtain the information they are after. Utilizing a multidisciplinary lens creates a more effective cybersecurity strategy, as a majority of cyber incidents are human-related. Leveraging cyber security in this direction will prove beneficial to any organization, as focusing on exclusively technical issues is not enough to combat this growing issue.
