After rereading what I wrote in Blog 1, my initial course expectations were very similar to the outcome of this course. I believe that I did very well on achieving all the course objectives just by taking time to read and learn about each module. My attitudes about Social Psychology did not change much, but If I were to take this class all over again I would watch more of the videos at the end of each module then I did. One way that I have grown academically over the last few months is learning how to take an online class in general. Of course I learned many new academic, informational topics but I feel like I have grown academically by completing an online class. One skill that I gained from taking this course is how to time manage in order to get certain tasks done. I believe I can utilize this skill in my professional life a lot.

Academic Growth: I chose this as a visual image to describe my academic growth. This relates to my blog post because this was the first online course I have taken and I believe I made it out in good shape!

Looking back at this semester and my e-Portfolio, I have learned many new things. The top three things that I have learned so far are what heuristics, emotional intelligence, and the different styles of love are. The heuristic concept was learned while writing assignment 1 and the assignment 1 takeaway. Next, emotional intelligence was learned while writing blog 7. Lastly, different styles of love was learned while writing assignment 4 and assignment 4 takeaway. All of these concepts fascinated me because they have so much to do with everyday life and how people see and do things differently. The concept of emotional intelligence discussed in blog 7 applies to assignment 4 because regulating your emotions is important when in a relationship. This can change your style of love to someone who is more of a player of the game of love. One concept that I learned in this class relates to something I learned in English literature. The representative heuristic was a big concept when talking about racial differences in literature. People would judge African Americans based on their looks. This formed a stereotype against African Americans.

Emotional intelligence: I chose this image as my visual because it shows the basic idea of how to organize concepts learned in class. I learned many different concept and was able to relate them to different things.

After reading this article on sexual conflict, I furthered my knowledge on this topic. I did not know that men and women’s genes affected their positions in relationships. Most of the time I just thought it was hormones kicking into gear. It was very interesting to see the three different stages of when you can spot sexual conflict in relationships and what they entail. Both genders do upset the opposite gender often, generally from different beliefs and actions. One way that men can upset women in today’s society would be coming off as overly controlling. Other ways in which men would upset women would be ignoring the woman or taking advantage of them. One way that a woman can upset a man and cause sexual conflict would be spending too much of their partner’s money. Other ways in which women can cause sexual conflict with men would be being over dramatic or too clingy. The most common sexual conflict in both men and women is cheating.

Man upsetting woman: I chose this picture to represent a time when men upset women. This man is ignoring his wife and not giving her attention.

Emotional intelligence is the ability to control and express your emotions. Self regulation relates to emotional intelligence because it is a sub unit of emotional intelligence. Self regulation is effected by emotional flooding. This has to do with fight or flight and our decision making when it comes to emotions. Emotional intelligence means many things to me. I tend to take control of my emotions in a good way most of the time. Lowering the emotions allows me to regulate my responses. An example of how I display my emotional intelligence is through the game of soccer. I display my emotions through leadership on the field. I have a strong emotional connection with soccer and my teammates so I combine the two and give my motivation to them when they need it.

Emotional intelligence: I chose this image because it represents my emotional intelligence score from an online quiz.

After watching the video Killing Us Softly III, I am reassured of the fact that advertisements dehumanize women the majority of the time. It disgust me how women only see themselves as beautiful if they look they way advertisements are making women appear. Before I watched this video I knew society made advertisements of women in the wrong way. They portray women to be very thin with no blemishes on their faces. After watching this video other details popped out at me. They portray women to look and be a certain way. These advertisements focus on making women a thing, and they only focus on a part of that thing such as breasts. This video gave me new knowledge on how these advertisements lead to the highest percentage of teen pregnancy. The five advertisements that I chose all portray women to look a certain way. For an example, I chose advertisement one because they made this women a thing and focused on her breasts. Next, I chose advertisement two because it is portraying her sexually. I chose advertisement three because Victoria Secret tends to body shame heavier women with skinny models. I also chose advertisement four because it again shows products that generally make people lose weight. By doing this they are telling Australian women to loose weight. Lastly, I chose advertisement five because this women does not have one wrinkle or blemish on her face. This can sadden another female because they do not have the same luck.

Above are three different advertisements that heavily represent the credibility in our world today. Picture A represents a credible advertisement, while B represents a non credible advertisement and C represents an attractive advertisement. When looking at advertisement A, I am able to tell if it was credible or not. Some factors as to why I believe it is credible is because of the facts stated. I have heard of these before regarding carrots and vision. Also, there is a shout out to The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, which shows me that the information is coming from a credible source. Along with advertisement B comes a non credible advertisement. The many factors that tell me this is a non credible advertisement are the missing labels or titles. We do not know this is a accurate description of Camel cigarettes. We also do not know if this is even a doctor. Lastly, the surveys that they may be recording could be bias against doctors. When looking at this advertisement many uncertainties lead me to believe this is not credible. Finally, advertisement C shows an attractive advertisement. This advertisement is attractive to me because of all the great deals. When I am shopping I would like to spend the least amount of money. Some factors that make this attractive is the coloring of the ad, the big and bold lettering, and also the amount off sale price for men’s, women’s and boys’ clothes. The sale, 70 percent off is written in bold coloring which catches the eye. I found this attractive source effective because compared to the other advertisements, this one was flashy with things that I enjoy. When shopping, I am always looking for new shoes and a great deal!

After completing Exam 1, I achieve a good score of 98. I am pleased with the score I got because I did put in the effort and studied. Leading up to the test, after reading all the modules I created a Quizlet of all the key points to each PowerPoint. By the end of the modules, I had a solid Quizlet with all the topics and ideas that I thought would get me a good grade. The question that I got wrong was number 17 about the two drivers on a highway. The correct answer that I should have put was cognition influences affect. What I learned from this testing process is to continue the note taking on Quizlet that I did for this test. It gave me success in the long run. Something that I could have done in order to get me to a full 100% is to glance at the jeopardy chapter reviews a little more often to help me remember all of the key ideas better. Instead of waiting until the end of the chapters, I should have also spaced my studying out to weekly. After seeing the feedback from my exam, I can now look to further my studying and have module notes to achieve the higher score.

Social Psych Quizlet: I chose to use this picture because this is what I used to study for this exam. It helped me very much.

My initial thoughts on this article were surprising. I never thought of music causing an attraction to someone else in a relationship. After reading the article I can now see that there could be a relation between someone’s traits and values based on the type of music they listen to. I have notice a similarity between my significant other and myself when it comes to music taste. We both enjoy listening to country music. Furthermore, there is also a similarity in values that we both share which makes sense to me now after reading the article.

“Life is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts is a song that I chose to associate with my outlook on life. I believe I should live life day by day and make everyday great. I also chose “Best Friend” by Richie Campbell to associate with my one friends Emma. Emma and I get along very well and she is my best friend. The next song is “In Case You Didn’t Know” by Brett Young. I associate this with my boyfriend because we both like country and this one represents a love story. I associate my parents with the song “I Swear” by John Michael Montgomery. This was their wedding song. “Chicken Fried” by Zac Brown Band is associated with an event in my life. While at the concert a soldier came out and we all saluted him in honor of serving our country. This was very special because I know people in the military. Lastly, “This Mountain” by Faouzia associates with me! I associate myself with this song because I am going to show everyone what I got.

My Soundtrack:

  • Life Outlook: Life is a Highway (Rascal Flatts)
  • Friends: Best Friend ( Richie Campbell)
  • Significant other: In Case You Didn’t Know (Brett Young)
  • Parents: I Swear (John Michael Montgomery)
  • Event in life: Chicken Fried (Zac Brown Band)
  • Me: This Mountain (Faouzia)

The type of student I believe I am is hardworking and proactive. When I have something due I will work ahead to get it done on time. My confidence level as a student is fairly high. On a scale of one to ten, ten being the highest, I am at a seven. Being a student athlete adds to my confidence level as a student because with traveling for away soccer trips, I still manage to study and get my assignments done on time. Something that I can do to increase my confidence level is completing practice problems on top of homework assignments. My score for the self-efficacy survey was a 32 out of 40. I believe this accurately represents my ability to be self efficient. Once I have set my mind on a task in the past I have shown that I can be self efficient and get it done well.

The objectives outlined in the Course Syllabus will help me in the future by preparing me with an idea of what is to come next in the course. Furthermore, they show the overall knowledge that I will gain from this course at the end of the semester. My expectations of this course is to learn how the mind works in social aspects and what causes it to work this way. I am hoping to gain much knowledge about how we gain close friendships. In order to have success in this course I plan to stay on top of all my modules and assignments so that it runs smoothly.
