I feel like I’ve grown a lot as a student and a person in general this semester because of many different reasons. From being more aware to knowing how to manage my time better this semester has been full of many different challenges. The transition from high school to college has been a big jump, especially when you think about it from a learning perspective. The teaching ways opened a new world of challenges that were mostly unexpected.
My expectations for this year were simple, I was hoping to make new friends and open myself to new possibilities. One of the many things that I was expecting was to stay focused and take notes in every class. To become a better study and limit distractions and finally to say yes to almost everything. The semester did indeed meet most of my expectations and some more than others. For example, making new friends this semester I’ve made a couple of good friends that helped me get through half this year and I’m grateful for them. On the other hand, I’ve made some bad friends to where they were all about bringing me down and I had to let them go. New opportunities have opened up, I got a new job that I cherish and love, ate more chick-fil-la than I ever expected, and finally I’ve became a better student study wise. I wish I knew how to study 14 weeks ago, it would’ve come in handy and set me up for the long run. Not knowing how to study for you Is a huge problem because with my major that’s the most important quality.
The time I spent studying in the beginning of the year lessens as the year went further. The beginning I was ready and prepared to do whatever it took to make sure I got all the information and tried to suck in everything. Now I know how to get the important information without all the unnecessary work. My habits changed for the better because now instead of wasting study time trying to write everything down, I now know how to gather the important information. A resource I used that helped me out was YouTube. It helped me get the lectures I didn’t understand right because I was watching it at my own speed. Without the too fast or the things that weren’t explained in detail. Going into next semester I will most definitely utilize the tutoring center and watch more YouTube as well as taking more notes. The two majors I’m also interested in are real estate and oceanography. Those are other interests that I have, and I would be cool to try those as well. It’s good to have a plan like that so if something doesn’t go right one way, you have a second path. They will give me a second chance
