- Tell us how you have grown from the beginning of the semester to now. I feel I have grown in ways I wasn’t expecting. I didn’t just grow with education but as well as with time management, and maturity. I am so glad I went through everything that I did, and took certain classes because I wouldn’t be where I am today.
- What were your expectations for this year? Did this semester’s experiences meet your expectations? Explain. I think my expectations were low because I wanted to give myself an open eye. This is my first semester as a college student, I am going to mess up, make mistakes, fail an assignment, or just have done something without thinking. But going into next semester, I know kind of what to expect so I will give myself higher expectations.
- What is something you wish you knew 14 weeks ago? Take each assignment seriously. I feel I was procrastinating and would put other things such as going out, sleeping, anything besides school first. As well as going to class, I thought me just doing the work would keep my grade up, but no. Next semester, “GO TO CLASS”.
Study Habits
- How much time do you spend studying for each class now vs. at the beginning of the semester? The beginning of this semester, I would study a ton. I would go to study hall around 8 hours each week to study and make sure I am good for the week and the week after. But I feel now I have lacked a little but I can come back from it and be better. I need to stay with the consistency I had in the beginning of this semester.
- How have your study habits changed? I don’t think my study habits have changed. One thing I have recently been doing is trying to reach out and get in groups to understand others point of views. This has helped me study and show other views to fully understand assignments.
- Tell us about a resource that you have used/learned about this semester that will assist you next semester. I used the odu library website a lot. I feel it gives me a big look into things. I can find everything I need on that website. I think it’s very helpful, and I will use this website in the future.
- What study habits/techniques will you use going into next semester? I will use the same techniques I am using now. I feel writing everything down helps it stick more in my head and I can remember more things that way. As well as watching videos on certain subjects. I feel writing and watching videos help me a lot.
Health Professions Learning Community
- This semester you were enrolled in at least SOC 201S, and HLTH 101. Many of you were also enrolled in CHEM 105N and CHEM 106N, and some of you were enrolled in HIST 104H with Professor White.
- On the surface these classes do not appear to be connected; however this semester each professor was intentional about drawing connections between content, and subjects discussed. Discuss the ways in which these courses are tied together. So for history, it was very connected with nursing. I felt everyday I learned something new about the history of nursing. I feel Professor White helped a lot connect things of history to medical things. But not just that these classes helped create bonds and connect with people I thought I wouldn’t talk to.
Parallel Plan
- This semester we had presentations from different majors in the College of Health Sciences as well as from different majors on campus. This was to give you an idea for possible parallel majors to your current intended major.
- Which two other majors would you be most interested in? Why? I am thinking of sports medicine. I think I am most interested in that major because I feel I would be home. The reason I said “home”, because I would be around sports a ton and also create bonds like I did with my athletic trainer.
- What benefit is there to having a parallel plan (or two) in place? I feel it’s good to have options open. The reason I say that is because, if you start one thing and end up not liking it you have another option.
- How could one or both of these two majors benefit your current intended major? I mean, these two are different. But either way, these two help me mentally. I will learn things either way. I am hoping to change my major to sports medicine.
