From Module 11-14, my favorite Item to Archive was from Module 14. I think this was an easy exercise for me because I am a generally happy person. I also like taking tests like this that score you’re feelings. It is helpful to relate a number back to your feelings because it is nice to have a numerical representation of something ambiguous. However, can happiness really be gauged like this? I don’t think four questions is enough to truly determine someone’s level of happiness.

I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that my score is just the average. I feel that a five is a pretty high score and it makes me feel good to know that an average score is not lower than that. I am sad to know that the average score for a college student is less than a five but I am not surprised. I think that a lot of college students struggle with mental health because their stress levels are constantly high. My main takeaway from this exercise was that not everything can be measured. Some things like feelings do not have easy, numerical values. I think this exercise made me think about how I often jump to conclusions about how others are feeling or thinking. I need to remember that not everything is black and white. People can be both happy and sad at the same time.

Idiom Corner: idioms relating to HAPPINESS - SADNESS

I chose this image because I think it represents what I learned from this assignment. People are not 100% happy or 100% sad all the time. Emotions overlap each other.

My favorite Item to Archive from Module 7-10 would be from Module 8. This exercise made me feel a bit uncomfortable because I had think about stereotypes of other racial and ethnic groups. However, being uncomfortable is a main part of learning and growing as an individual. The main point of the this exercise was to demonstrate how stereotypes change over-time. When comparing to results from 1933 and 1951, I was glad to see that I chose more positive stereotypes.

I think the main takeaway from this assignment is that stereotypes are social constructs. The reason they exist is because society created them. Therefore, society has the power to take these stereotypes away. Since stereotypes can change and evolve over time, maybe one day they will cease to exist. I think this exercise helped me come to the conclusion that stereotypes do not really serve a purpose and they seem pretty pointless. I think it is silly to try and add personality traits to someone’s race. People all have different traits and interests and their race and ethnic group does not confine them to be a certain type of person.

The list below is the adjectives that I had matched to the race.

My favorite Item to Archive from Module 3-6 would be from Module 3. This exercise was engaging because I got to survey my friends and family and get their responses about attraction. From this assignment, I learned that when prompted with “Social psychologist have found in their research…” that people have a tendency to agree with the statement. I also learned that people can believe that opposites attract or that similar individuals attract, but there are pros and cons to both types of relationships.

I think that this small survey expanded my knowledge on how others think about attraction. I found that the people I interviewed who were in stable relationships, believed that having more similarities was more beneficial in the end. In terms of initial attraction, I think that opposites are more draw to each other because they can experience something new. However, when it comes to long-term relationships, I think that it is better to be able to have more shared traits.

The picture below is of the data that I collected for this assignment.
