I choose the above image as a representation that women are more than just their looks. Women can be smart, independent, resourceful, strong athletic and courageous. I think it’s very important for girls to learn these things at a young age, that way as they progress and become older, they will learn to love themselves abundantly. The five images were selected because these images are representations of what women should be and it lowers certain values that women have for themselves from the video. Advertisements such as the ones listed below are portrayals of what women should look like society, when in reality, these are not the ideal average woman. I think the video was an eye opener about advertisement in general. So much money is given to the business to idealize what women should look like, especially sexually. In the video, Jean Kilbourne discusses how advertisements gives the media the portrayal of women on “how to look and what we should be”. My previous perceptions of advertisements, is still the same as I watched the video. I understood the representation for women. You can clearly see most images are sexual and the women are flawless to the core. Unfortunately, real women have blemishes, scars, wrinkles, etc..

Zendaya is a beautiful woman, but this image portrays that she has clear skin, which is false. I don’t think she wears makeup every single day.
Kerry Washington is featured in a skin care routine ad. She is a beautiful women, but even she has blemishes that were probably photo edited out.
Of course Queen Beyonce slays within the entertainment world, but ideally, the average woman has thickness and some belly fat.
Kim Kardashian is known to be the guru when it comes to social media. Kim is known for her sexy images and body language, but does she know how much of an effect she has when it comes to being a role model for young women ?
Jasmine Sanders is a very known model within the beauty industry. She is gorgeous, but Jasmine body image is a ” set” standard within the model world, which does not portray real and authentic women. Most women do not have abs and small frames.
