I choose the above image as a representation that women are more than just their looks. Women can be smart, independent, resourceful, strong athletic and courageous. I think it’s very important for girls to learn these things at a young age, that way as they progress and become older, they will learn to love themselves abundantly. The five images were selected because these images are representations of what women should be and it lowers certain values that women have for themselves from the video. Advertisements such as the ones listed below are portrayals of what women should look like society, when in reality, these are not the ideal average woman. I think the video was an eye opener about advertisement in general. So much money is given to the business to idealize what women should look like, especially sexually. In the video, Jean Kilbourne discusses how advertisements gives the media the portrayal of women on “how to look and what we should be”. My previous perceptions of advertisements, is still the same as I watched the video. I understood the representation for women. You can clearly see most images are sexual and the women are flawless to the core. Unfortunately, real women have blemishes, scars, wrinkles, etc..
