For this blog entry, the class was asked to watch a video on ” Self-Regulation and Emotional Intelligence”. Linda Ferguson shares her video series on improving your emotional intelligence and how to effectively regulate your emotions. In the video, Ferguson discusses how self-regulation leads to emotional feelings and judgements. The relationship between ” Self-Regulation” and ” Emotional Intelligence” is the balance of how humans think, feel, which leads to a biochemical regulation throughout the body. Emotional Intelligence used in the appropriate way can help an individual make better choices when it comes to decision making. For example, let’s say I was stuck in 5pm traffic going east bound towards Virginia Beach. Once the traffic begins to flow easily, a car cuts off in front of me. Initially, I have two choices from flight or fight. I can either honk my horn or just let the car go about their business. How I feel at that moment, is what I am and will determine my judgement at that very moment. Certain life moments can help with emotional improvements. I think a personal meaning of Emotional Intelligence is that it is an internal regulation that is used daily and can always be improved. Life is full of different situations. Everyday may not be good, but there is something good in everyday. If more positive outlooks are used within one’s emotional intelligence, then more positive self-regulation can occur.
