Interview a Health Professional

In this interview, I had interviewed Mrs. Asheki Burrel, a Medical Case Manager for the Ft. Eustis McDonald Army Health Center, here in Virginia. In this interview I learned more about the health care system itself and how a different health profession, besides the one I am looking into, can help out a different set of people entirely. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture with me and Mrs. Asheki, however I do have a picture of her to have here on this section. She has a Bachelors in Social Work and she also has a certification in Physical Health Management on top of that. The video below is a link:

Some Question Summaries:

Path: Veteran who served in the Air Force for 8 years then went into an internship in social work at Colorado Springs. Eventually she was fortunate enough to get a position here in Virginia as a Medical Case Manager and Medical Case Readiness.

Responsibilites: Navigator for health care. She helps patients with any medical services they need and act as a middle person between the patient and the doctor.

Favorite Aspect: To help a patient get any kinds of services they might need.

Surprising Aspect: Knowing that people don’t know exactly what their medical care is. Things fall under their insurance, what services they are provided, and whats available for them. All this is here but no one knows what exactly how to us their own medical care.

Challenging Aspect: Internet, in specific google. Patients will come in with prior knowledge that they might’ve looked up which may not be right, so they feel that they might know more then the doctor or the professional which makes it difficult to work.
