Heuristics is basically being able to identify information and apply it almost instantly when making a decision. The Availability heuristic is when our beliefs can influence our overall opinion when making decision. For example, I have a fear of flying because of plane crashes and I do not like heights. However, my fear of plane crashes is valid, but I should not cut myself off from traveling but instead I should do ore research on plane crashes and how frequent they are. Anchoring and Adjustment heuristic is used when making making adjustments when buying goods and services more like bargaining. An example of this would be going to buy a used car at a dealership and the set price is about $12,500 so, the buyer negotiates with the dealership to bring the price down to one that he is willing to pay. This could lead to a negative heuristic also because when making adjustments, especially when bargaining, sometimes the seller will refuse to negotiate and the buyer will have to make a decision on if they want the product. The Status Quo Heuristic is having a bias towards someone or something because you are familiar with it. For example, I attended the same school as my father because he knew most of the instructors, faculty, and staff and trusted them to guide me through my K-12 years as opposed to moving to another city where he was unsure of the kind of education I would receive. This is also just the opinion of one’s mind and what they were comfortable with in which my parents could have did more research on surrounding schools. The Representativeness heuristic is basically identifying someone’s personality or traits with their compatibility of a group of certain people. For example, is the police making assumptions on crimes based on skin color which could lead to a very negative heuristic being that one’s assumption is not valid information and that the officer should conduct a full investigation.

Assignment Activity 2
I chose 6 pictures of myself that made me think of who I was and know for a fact that I am the type of person to take care of everyone before myself like a big sister or a caregiver. I love helping people and being there for them at their lows and highs. Growing up, I always admired my parents, especially my dad who always takes care of his parents as he does to this day. Unfortunately, my grandfather passed away in 2017 and he takes care of my grandmother with dementia with his three other brothers. Although, he did not have the proper time to grieve for his father, we all have been there to help him through this daunting process but, this is one of my reasons for wanting to get into psychology because I want to be able to provide mental health care to my family members and children in hospitals because taking care of your mental health is very important to me and I want to spread healthy habits to my family. Although this picture may not seem like it has anything to do with a family, I think of it as the people who put in to help me at one of the lowest times in my life but, a happy occasion and the hard work and help it took to get to this moment.
