Learning Style

You must include the assignment submitted in HLTH 101 regarding your Learning Style Self Assessment

 EVALUATE YOUR STUDY HABITS

  1. Describe your current methods of study. How do you study for each class?

Currently, I do not have a study routine. For example, dedicating a day to study for each class. As of right now, I just study a day or two before any test or quiz. In class, I take detailed color-coded notes. I do this so after class it is easy to understand what was discussed and taught in class.  Outside of class, I make a quizlet of the notes and use the different study features Quizlet has such as: flashcards, matching cards, and the practice quiz. Besides using quizlet, I also try to memorize my notes, chunks at a time.

  1. Identify one class in which you are doing well (not HLTH 101).   What study methods work best and why?

So far,I am doing well in all of my classes. I believe I am doing the best in my chemistry lecture. This class is asynchronous and the material is taught through recorded lectures/ notes videos. What works best for me in this class is to take very detailed notes. The study method that works best is memorizing my notes little by little. Then, taking a practice quiz on quizlet.

IDENTIFY AND APPLY NEW LEARNING TECHNIQUES

  1. The class I am experiencing challenges is my statistics class.

Planning: To do better in the class, I will try to use new and different strategies to study. For one, I will try to get a group of friends together and do practice problems together. I may try to do this every other week or twice a week. Second, I will do more practice problems that the professor provides for each chapter. I will try to plan on studying/practicing the concepts learned about twice a week. I will try designating 2 hours after class to practice what was learned during class that day. Based on my current understanding, I will spend more time on the probability unit of the class since that is what I am least familiar with.

Monitoring: I am being somewhat systematic in my studying of all of the material on the exam.  It is organized and planned but could be better. I would say I am not taking much advantage of the learning support available to me at ODU. A big reason for that is because I do not live on campus. I am struggling a little bit with finding motivation to study. However, I eventually find motivation when I remember my end-goal of being a Certified Nurse Midwife. I have clarified my confusion on how to study effectively for history. I still need clarification of how to study and perform better for chem lab. I will get clarification by asking my peers how to study for the class.

Evaluating: For the past exams I have taken, memorizing the material little by little helped me get a good grade. I will remember to continue to do this with future exams. However, what did not work so well was how much time I gave myself to study before the exam. I was not given the questions I got wrong. As of now, I have no confusion needing clarification.
