Coursework

Having a knowledge of cell biology is essential in understanding just about everything from plants to animals to tiny bacteria. In previous school years, we would talk about cells and their organelles but not go that much in depth and is it nice to have a class that allows us to focus a little more on the wonderful world of cell biology. I particularly enjoyed the marine yeast background and analysis we did. I like marine life so the topic was interesting from the start but being able to research budding and fission and then see the different types of reproduction in the microscope videos was pretty cool. I watch the videos more times than probably necessary. My goal is to become a doctor so of course cell biology is huge part of medicine in general but the marine yeast paper allowed us to dive a little deeper into cell biology that is not quite so straightforward medicinal. I took this course concurrently with genetics and I thought they married nicely together to take in one semester.
