ATA 5
This assignment was a learning experience for me. For this assignment, we were instructed to perform 5 good deeds and write about them in our essay. I am used to doing good deeds on a basis, so this assignment was pretty simple for me, and I enjoyed it a lot. I really don’t have anything else that it applies to because none of my other classes ever handed out an assignment like this one before. This assignment was personally relevant to me because I was the one doing the good deeds for others. I realized while doing these things that it’s an easy way to put a smile on someone else’s face.
ATA 4
For our last assignment, the purpose was for us to discuss our reactions to answers to a love questionnaire compared to others. We were tasked with the assignment of answering some questions and writing our essay based on those answers. We had to think about our current relationship or a past one and decided whether or not our answers were accurate.
What I learned from this assignment is how I see love in my relationship and how it is compared to others. This relates to something I learned a little while that has to do with our love language, what is the best way for us to give or receive love. For me, mine is gift-giving and sometimes physical touch or quality time. I don’t feel as though this assignment was personally relevant to me, although I enjoyed learning this new information, I wouldn’t say I was actively looking for these answers because I honestly didn’t know they existed.

During this assignment, we were tasked with reviewing comedian Michael Richards’ show, where he then went on a rampage saying the N-word and getting aggressive with some of the audience. The assignment asked us if we thought he was being racist or was he just angry and can someone just throw around racial slurs without having a harmful intent behind it.
This assignment was personally relevant to me because I feel as a black woman, a lot of people that are not of color, primarily white, would like us to forget about history. For example, whenever a white person reveals themselves as racist or says a racial slur, one of the first things they say are “well you guys say it to each other”, “I have black friends,” or “that word doesn’t mean anything anymore”. In actuality, we know that people use the N-word with the hard ER when they are trying to cause harm.
As an example, my boyfriend works at UPS and he was telling me about a conversation he was having with one of his coworkers, who was white. The conversation got on the topic of racism and as they were having this discussion, the older white gentlemen begin to get upset with what my boyfriend was saying to him. He basically told him, that they aren’t allowed to police how other people feel about racism and if someone is just trying to educate you on the topic, just take it with a grain of salt and learn from it basically. The coworker didn’t like that, and to me, that just goes to show that when you are using that word, your intention is to be hurtful and hateful.

The assignment was about heuristics, and we had to explain what they were and give examples of each one, to show our understanding. During this assignment, I learned about the four different heuristics in social cognition. I learned how these heuristics help people make decisions every day and how their thought process may be as they are making these decisions. I don’t have anything to apply it to within this course or another course, but I have applied it to my personal life. There have been plenty of times where I met someone, and I’ve observed them and made certain inferences. Most times I was correct and other times I have been wrong. I also, use all four of the heuristics on a day-to-day basis without knowing at first. Now that I have actually learned what they are I look back and think on all the times I have used them when making my final decisions
