One competency I achieved through both of my practice labs would be Global Environmental Health Competency 5 which states “Develop strategies for effectively communicating environmental health risk information.” I achieved this in my lead practice lab by critically thinking about any communication barrier due to language or age of the person receiving the information. In my risk management practice lab, I thought through how to communicate trainings to minimize risk due to language barriers. This impacted my learning because it allowed me the opportunity to think more deeply about the importance of communicating properly for your selected audience.

Another competency I achieved through both of my practice labs would be Global Environmental Health Competency 2 which states “Evaluate risks posed by environmental health hazards using risk assessment methods.” I achieved this competency in my lead practice lab by identifying which items in the community posed a potential risk for lead exposure. In my risk management practice lab, I achieved this by identifying hazards and coming up with risk management techniques to reduce those hazards. This impacted my learning by allowing me to reflect on all aspects of a situation that could be hazardous and how to manage the risk posed to humans.
