End of the Semester Reflection
From the beginning of the semester I have grown as a student. Coming into college I had a plan I wanted to follow since I was in middle school but upon my first month I realized that I wished to move in a different direction. I’ve grown to realize that it’s okay to change your mind and things can go in a different direction than you have planned. My expectations for this year were set high for myself. I planned to study all the time and get perfect grades, or at least that’s what I hoped for myself, I was expecting an endless surrounding of new people. My expectations for myself have not been truly met but for the most part I am satisfied with how things have turned out. 14 weeks ago I wish I knew how fast it would be over and that these final weeks would sneak up on me in a flash.
Now I spend about an hour more studying and doing homework for each class rather than at the beginning of the semester. My study habits have changed from studying by myself to studying with others and now attending office hours and on campus tutoring. A resource that I have begun to use is campus tutoring, using this resource has helped me learn from students who have been in my position taking the course I am struggling with. Going into next semester I plan to continue going to tutoring when necessary and making study guides based off class material and information I do not understand.
At the surface, Chemistry, Sociology, and Heath 101 do not seem to be connected. However after taking these courses and with the aid of the teachers helping to make connections to the heath field, it has become clear that these courses have lots to do with piggy backing on one another. Each course is about people in one way or another. The helping and understanding of individuals and what makes them do the things they do whether that be for survival or just daily behavior. All the courses tied into one another at the individual level. How people survive, why they perform the actions they do, behavior analysis and helping understand options for people. The most beneficial event for me has been the first one where many people of different majors and clubs came together to speak to our community and explain what each major is for. It helped me grasp an idea from students speaking out about what to be on the lookout for and how to prepare yourself for what is to come.
