Mid-Semester Reflection
In college so far I have been most excited for meeting new people, engaging in my classes and also having a bit of a taste of adulthood. I expect my biggest challenges to be taking care of myself, living on my own. Managing my time between work, school and friendships. Also finding time to complete tasks that I enjoy doing on my own such as clubs and going to the gym. Other than school, I work and also go to the gym frequently. I spend about 20 to 25 hours a week at work and try to spend at least an hour a day at the gym. As for balancing these activities with school work, I plan to ensure that all assignments are finished before I engage in any extra work.In high school, I participated in cheerleading, running track, Green club, Interact Club and also Student Council. As for joining any clubs this semester, I do not plan on joining any clubs, while I do plan to next semester I just want to be adjusted before any extra commitments.
My intended major as just being changed is Communications Studies, I chose this major because it is broad and has many opportunities under it. The skills that I possess to aid me with this is being comfortable with people, fast on my feet and able to speak and converse easily with others. While I do not have any experience in this field, I hope to in the future and have high hopes for what awaits. In 5 to 10 years I hope to be completing if not already finished with flight school and having acquired my license, hopefully flying commercial airplanes or in the military.
The biggest difference between high school and college so far is one your parents are way less involved in your school work, also being far from them. And also your professors aren’t as personally engaged to their students. I believe that homework is a type of studying and it is a way to better apply your knowledge and test it as well. For chemistry I plan to spend about 8 hours a week studying. For literature, I plan to spend about 3 hours a week studying. For Sociology I plan to spend about 5 hours a week studying. For Film Appreciation I plan to spend about 3 hours a week studying.I plan to study anywhere but my room, study rooms, the library and webb center. I can anticipate other people being a distraction, as well as my phone and spending time sleeping. I plan to avoid these distractions by staying away from my bed, trying to stay off my phone and studying with people I know won’t be as much of a distraction than others. My best study time is around 5, I find that once my day is coming to a close and all my tasks have been completed that I have the best time to study with clarity. Specific study techniques that work for me are rewriting notes, watching helpful videos about concepts and making flash cards.
