This website offers a timeline of data breaches that ranges back to 2002. Researchers could utilize this feature in order to get a rough estimate of the number of data breaches that have occurred each year since then, and they could use each years’ data in order to calculate an estimate for upcoming data breaches. Additionally, this site compiles the number of data breaches that occur in each state. This information could be used to determine which states are the most prone to data breaches. Furthermore, a record of the number of breaches based on type of breach and based on type of business breached is stored on this site. This allows researchers to understand what types of businesses are most vulnerable to data breaches, as well as the type of breaches that are most commonly used in cyber attacks.
